This guided trail run was a very special experience from the blessing of the land where clouds formed a rainbow-like arc over the crater to the end where we sampled local foods and drank coconut water straight from the coconut. This was so much more than a beautiful run in the forest and around the crater.
Chris is a very knowledgeable guide who shared information about the local land, the volcano, plants and animals, Hawaiian culture, eco-psychology, and trail running.
If you love running and want to feel more connected to the land that you are visiting, this is the tour for you!

An old friend has worked with Chris for several years and gifted me with a session. I knew little about what to expect but went in with curiosity and an open mind/heart. Chris created ritual with song/chant, a circle and a prompt to ponder when I went for my solo walk. The time alone and the time with Chris was rich, full, gentle and meaningful. I always felt respected, safe, seen and heard. Connecting with self, earth, ocean, jungle as well as with Chris' learning, wisdom and sweet heart was a joy.

Chris is an amazing guide and held a safe container for me. He led me through a beautiful forested coastal area where I could begin to reflect on my personal life transitions within my family. He was able to reflect back to me my strengths and helped me feel like I can trust myself to move forward. He helped me safely explore and listen to the teachings inherent in a calm tide pool within an encroaching storm. I gained a beautiful vantage point to see my situation more clearly within a relatively short amount of time. I look forward to working more deeply with Thriving Sun’s offerings.

Chris is an engaging guide whose varied experiences over the years at and around the volcano make him uniquely capable to enhance what would otherwise be a solitary enlightening experience into an encyclopedic understanding of the vistas before the observer. His enthusiasm and gentle sharing of his factual and scientific and philosophical as well as spiritual knowledge enhanced exponentially the physical wonders before us, for which we will always remember fondly.

Chris worked with me to manifest I dream that I had shared with him about connecting with myself and the Island. Before my arrival, Chris led me through various activities of reflection to find the deeper intention and meaning behind my visit. Once I arrived he led me to secluded, magikal locations throughout the island. Each one had its own story and teaching, which Chris shared whole-heartedly.
The culmination of the visit was an multi-day backpacking adventure first into the Waipio Valley and onward into Waimanu, the valley of King Kamehameha. There I camped for four days and using the tools and techniques Chris had shared with me, I was able to translate my experience into clear insights and guidance from Nature.
Upon return, Chris welcomed me back and held space for me to share my story. As he listened and reflected my adventure to me, I was able to understand further my own experience.
Anyone who finds themselves drawn to the Island would do well to connect with Chris.
In turn, they will find themselves connecting with the essence of the place known as the Big Island under the wing of a man who has spent his life developing a relationship with the Island, it's forests, deserts, volcanoes and waters.

The are not enough descriptors to adequately describe the services Chris provides or for his beautiful soul. In the walks I have taken with Chris, I continued to deepen my connection to culture and place. Chris is extremely gifted and his peaceful presence serves as a compass for self reflection, guidance, healing, and growth. Chris is very grounded to nature and understands the benefits for mind, body, and soul to return to our gifts given to us naturally. As we transition in many ways and forms during our lifetime, Chris will always help one to tap into self for the importance of the transition and the work itself. I am so thankful for Chris and all he contributes to the community, visitors and locals, as well as his contribution in bringing more light into the entire world! This is a cannot miss experience!

Working with Chris is an anchor in my life when all else seems so strange. The Nature Practice he shares has taught me about place, about respect and deep listening, and about being more human.
There are not many words that can describe the feeling of being attuned to a landscape, and it is an experience I pray many could feel in their life, whether on a trip or at home in their own places.
If you have the opportunity to take a walk with Chris, do it :) He is an incredible guide, mentor, and this work is obviously his passion & his place in the larger web of life.

Chris is an Indigenous practitioner with a unique approach to supporting his clients through interaction with Mother Nature, in a sustainable, respectful way. The practice is designed to be adapted to region and lineage, so anyone can do it. In my sessions with Chris and the landscape, he taught me how to ask and receive wisdom and guidance from Mother Nature, to listen to her speaking in her own language. It’s an invaluable skill that I will cherish and practice for the rest of my life. He also taught me to ask permission and express gratitude. With an emphasis on cultural sensitivity and Right Relations, this practice is good for anyone ready to make peace with Self, others, and the Earth itself. Chris is humble, kind, and trustworthy. If you are feeling the call, just do it. You won’t regret it.

Chris thank you! I highly recommend you check out Chris’ offerings. He is an amazing guide. He took time before we met to help me understand the plan. After our meeting he was gracious with his time. He provided suggestions on other things to do at the Volcano and he has continued to offer connection and support even though I’m no longer on the island! If I lived here I’d do the series of walks. Give it a go. I know you’ll learn and connect. Thank you Chris…mahalo!

Chris took me on nature walks during my visit to the island; we walked both the ocean and the forest. Not only were the locations he took me to beautiful hidden gems that I would not have found on my own as a tourist, he also spoke so intimately about the land through story. The whole experience with Chris felt otherworldly and truly took my breath away. His deep understanding of the land from a biological perspective and cultural standpoint made the experience rich and meaningful. I would highly recommend having Chris offer his services to you on your next trip to the big island.
