The Girl Puzzle monument is in front of the Lighthouse on Roosevelt Island. There are a number of busts plus the mini me’s. They really are great! See photos !

Like reviewer #1, we’re frequent visitors to NYC and were eager to see something new and different. For the first time ever, we requested a “Big Apple Greeter” to show us around Roosevelt Island. We arrived on the Tramway, unaware of the newest feature to grace RI so we felt especially fortunate to discover this forward-thinking yet historical piece of art.
The visit to the Island was terrific overall and we also had the great good luck to meet the artist/sculptor of the monument which honours journalist Nellie Bly and was selected as part of an open competition. It’s located at the north of the island in Lighthouse Park. Amanda and Brad, co-owners of the foundry where the pieces were fabricated, happened to be onsite to tend to their installation.
We’d encourage people to check out the sculptures either separately or as part of an Island visit. It’s an amazing piece of American history!

Having visited NYC on numerous occasions on this visit I wanted to do and see something new. So I headed on the Roosevelt Tramway over to Roosevelt Island and caught the FREE Red Bus down to The Octagon and from there walked the short way to Lighthouse Park where I admired the stunning new monument, "The Girl Puzzle" which honors Nellie Bly, a woman who is regarded as America’s first investigative journalist. Designed and sculpted by Amanda Matthews 'The Girl Puzzle' presents, on a monumental scale, faces of many women who have endured hardship, but are stronger for it. The monument gives visibility to Asian, Black, Young, Old, Immigrant, and Queer women. Their stories and lives are forever commemorated alongside Nellie Bly, whose face is cast in silver bronze. The other four faces are cast in bronze and rendered in partial sections that appear like giant puzzle pieces. I visited Lighthouse Park at dusk in mid-December and the light gave a warmth to the sculptures. The reflective domes make you feel like part of the monument and give different vantage points as you move around the monuments space. Something new and different in New York City and well worth a visit... Hope you like my photographs.
