This is not part of the usual turistic itineraries whatsoever, but I highly recommend it to anyone visiting NY. This is an internal garden with a cute mini artificial pond and many trees inside the Ford Foundation building, in the Upper East Side, very close to the United Nations building too. It´s absolutely peaceful and beautiful, for photography and plants lovers, a must, no doubt!

We stumbled upon this indoor beauty as we were making our stroll to The United Nations. This indoor warm forest/garden is free to the public. It is cute, small, quiet and very peaceful. Great for those Insta photos. Also a great spot for a restroom break before heading back out into the city. No prior reservations needed. Simply walk in through 43rd street, check in with security and you’re on your way. Stay as long as you’d like.

A surprise... when you enter the Ford Foundation Building you don't expect to find yourself inside a greenhouse... in New York!
Inside the building there is a covered garden with plants, flowers, aromatic herbs, an artificial lake... wonderful!
Furthermore, it is also possible to visit an exhibition but, given the beauty of the garden, we spent all our time there!
It is located in the UN area, so if you are already in that area for a guided tour of the United Nations, a visit is a must. Truly unmissable!!!

Iconic jewel of a building open to the walk-in public. Free art gallery overlooking the interior forested garden. Important logistic note: This welcoming building offers the only public restrooms in the near neighborhood. Allow one hour to fully appreciate.

Tucked away at the end of 42nd street between 1st and 2nd Avenue is the Ford Foundation Building. The building consists of a glass and steel cube held up by piers made of concrete and clad with granite. Inside this office structure is a 10 storey glass foyer, the Ford Foundation Atrium, that houses a monstrous tropical garden. I was a amazed with the towering trees, ferns, gardenias and hanging vines that slilered around the girders .....Tarzan would feel at home. To tickle my senses, there is a reflecting pool and a sensory garden with plant life that encouraged me to touch and smell. So, here I am in chaotic NYC .......literally a concrete jungle yet I was walking through the belly of a rainforest, invigorating myself in this garden paradise.

This is an unusual office building because of the forest park inside. I was on my way to Tudor City and was surprised to find this along the way I'd seen the photos but in-person was more impressive as it is truly different.

Incredible arboretum in lobby. The visit is free and shouldn’t take longer than half an hour. If you are in the area (for example visiting UN HQ) don’t miss this gem.
