We were not lucky enough to see the eagles on our visit to mount Shannon however the guide in the cabin was very enthusiastic and passionate about the eagles. Especially as the eagle was reintroduced back into the the area after a long period of being absent.

Worth a seeing when in Mountshannon.

You can view with telescope the eagles nest with chicks. The guy on duty was quite informative. Worth a visit while in the village. Right next to blue flag beach too.

What a great job, these people do, offering all a great view of the areas resident white tailed sea eagles. A small cabin perched on the edge of the quay by the side of the harbour side, housing numerous telescopes offering good views of these nesting birds. The chap who manned the hut, is knowledgeable and knows these birds well. Keep up the good work. A donation is nice but not demanded.

No eagles in sight

We went down to the harbour a few times but unfortuately we did not see the eagles. There is a building there with info about the eagles but it was never open when we visited. The harbour gives lovely views of the lake & lots of boats to look at.

Eagles feeding their young.

We came upon this by accident while visiting the lovely but very quiet village of Mountshannon. There is a small cabin down by the harbour. There were two telescopes directed at the nest of the white tailed eagles in the distant trees. We could see one of the eagles feeding it's young in the nest. Great to see it.

White Tailed Eagles on Lough Derg

Visiting Mountshannon Harbour there is a small Portacabin set up with telescopes so that anyone interested can see into where the White Tailed Eagles are nesting on an island in Lough Derg. The cabin is manned by highly informative rangers who can give you the history of the nesting couple and information on the birds themselves.

Whilst we were there we were lucky enough to see the male eagle bringing food for the female on the nest and will be going back in a couple of weeks to hopefully get a view of this years chicks.

This Cabin is located on the Harbour from Late April to September and well worth a visit if running along past the town.
