Very nice though a tad monotonous trail between Carbondale and Union Dale, PA. I was expecting a little bit more scenery in terms of mountain vistas rather than mostly trees lining both sides. The last two or three miles in this particular stretch of the trail became more open, but overall, it lacked a little je ne sais quoi.

The fact that this part of the trail was crushed gravel and not pavement didn't help either. There was a slight incline towards Union Dale which made for a much faster return, but going up on the gravel was slow. There wasn't much to stop off and see along the way, and the Union Dale Cables Store at the end was a wretched place for lunch.

Picnic tables on route were convenient for an impromptu watermelon picnic, and we came across a few deer right off the trail on our return.

We had driven out of our way to Carbondale in order to ride this trail, and in retrospect, it wasn't worth it (especially since Carbondale had little to offer). Surprisingly, few people knew about this trail, and we might have passed a total of five riders in the several hours we were traveling. All of this points to Cherry Wonderdog's conclusion that at least the northern portion of Lackawanna River Heritage Trail in Pennsylvania (it goes all the way to New York) is a bit of a yawner.

What a beautiful trail for bike riding. First and foremost, April from the visitors center was instrumental in helping me plan my rides. First, by sending me the tour book when I had trouble printing it at home before my trip and second, when I was in PA and needed more guidance I called her and she was so pleasant, patient and helpful to me. Truly a dedicated ambassador for this trail.
We did 2 rides in 2 days and both were magnificent. The trails are very well maintained and peppered with artwork along the way. Numerous benches and places to stop for a picnic and to take in the fall foliage. Beautiful scenery along theses trails. Highly recommend for biking and/or walking.

I bike the trail in several places with my 14-year-old son. I can't ever recall seeing anything like Mike's review from March 2019. His negative attitude is more typical of the area than the quality of the path. This is a high-value resource for the community. Thanks to everyone who planned and produced the trail. Your effort is very much appreciated by many other folks in NEPA.

this local trail that runs through the heart of down town Scranton and has many parts as far as Archbald is a great bike ride or hike

This trail is broken into a lot of entirely separate sections between Scranton and Carbondale. Each has its own personality, and all are hard to locate at first. Parking only minimal. Even on the maps it's hard to see that what looks like trail is really walking on neighborhood roads and sidewalks. Best sections go right next to the river, so look for those areas. It is kind of interesting because each section is so different. The newest, hidden behind subsidized housing on John St in Carbondale, has custom artwork on the fences.

Using an old railroad bed the trails were cleaned up and created for walking, jogging and biking. Awesome idea. The propblem is that like every other project in the city of Scranton, once the federal grant runs out, it is forgotten about. Lighting along sections of the trail are burned out or broken. Police do not regularly patrol the trails and what was a great idea is falling into decay. It's the Scranton Way!

LRHT is a beautifully kept trail for running, biking or walking. I often run alone there and feel safe the vast majority of the time. It's definitely a place that Scranton should be proud of.

I have ventured onto 4 different sections of the trail and have found them in good shape. In Scranton, the postings to vehicular traffic are excellent.

Biked the trail from Carbondale to Mayfield, part was located on town roads and part on well groomed paths. Enjoyed the experience and look forward to riding more areas along the trail.

Took our bikes on this trail and it was a very nice afternoon ride. The part of the trail we rode on was paved and wide enough for two bikes to travel side by side. The trail is picturesque and great to be riding without the worry of traffic.
