Stave Church by Fjord

This beautiful old church is situated very close to the Songefjord and holds services every Sunday. The church is unlocked and there is no charge to go in and visit. The church was built in remembrance of the climbing pioneer Margaret Sophia Green the daughter of an English Clergyman who married a Norwegian, she died in 1890 of TB and it was her last wish for a church to be built, the church was completed three years after her death you can see her organ and photo in the church although it is not used today.

Un vero gioiello in questo villaggio che sembra uscito da una fiaba.
L'architettura riprende lo stesso stile presente in zona e si integra molto bene con l'ambiente circostante.

This church was the inspiration for Elsa's coronation in Disney's fil "Frozen" (2013), Well worth a visit if you are in Balestrand.

Quiet reflection

A beautiful church. Quiet. Small and feels quite private. Visited here a couple of days after the death of our Queen Elizabeth. Found it a lovely place to sit, to pray and give thanks. Will stay with me for a long time.

Memorable, unforgettable experience

Beautiful country, majestic mountains. Great to see that ice is green, and to see marmots. Flam railway is a must
We had glorious food at the Kviknes hotel- Langoustines for breakfast every day as well as spider crabs.
The big downside was that Norway is bloody expensive.

A Lovely Little Church

This was a beautiful little church. The stained glass was really well done and the alter painting was beautiful. The wood carvings we just beautiful. The only temptation was the bell's pull rope was in plain sight and it was hard to resist pulling it. :)

Nice to see and free and close to our hotel. Not a true Stave Church, but built in the style as a memorial for an American women.

Charming and lovely little church. Absolutely empty, we were only ones in the area. Its prettier, though not as historic, as the Stave Churches. They charge 100NOK per head, St Olav's is Free.

Quaint church a few minutes walk

Only a few minutes walk from our hotel, we stopped in to see this quaint church on our walk around town. We enjoyed the architecture and general novelty of the church. No charge only donations.
