This area is accessible by public transportation (jeepney) as well as private vehicles. The area used to be our laboratory for our ecology class. I have visited the area for several times in 2018 & 2019, because I found out that the Ecotrail is another great place for birding. It is a bit challenging trail, but as a beginner, I was able to go through the trail safe and well. It is best to go there with a companion as mobile signal is poor, so in any case of accident you will have someone with you.
I got my Black-chinned Fruit Dove, Philippine Falconet and Luzon Flameback lifers there. I heard several other interesting bird species, too, and that's the reason why I keep going back there.
Access to the area is a bit more limited than the Makiling trail though. It is open for 7 days a week except for holidays, and from 8am to 4pm. Cost of entrance is minimal for the park's maintenance. No food stalls inside, so it would be best if you bring snacks/meals with you. :)

Nice place to wander round for an hour or so, lots of plants and paths to explore, so down by the river, although a little bit run down now.

Spend several hours walking around the botanical park and listen for the bird cries and try to spot the birds flitting from tree to tree. If you're lucky you will see eagles and other rare birds. Most of the trees are tagged with their scientific names including the common names. It was fascinating to be able to know the names of many native trees which I have seen around but did not know their names.

Makiling botanic gardens offers a safe and beautiful hike through the forest of Mount Maquiling. The longer trails offer a challenging hike with many ups and downs and stream beds. The trees are old and full of epiphytes. Don't go too fast or you'll miss the giant millipedes, birds, and reptiles that you're sure to see. For younger or less adventurous types, you can hike along the stream, climb paved stairs (careful for the broken, rusty handrails), and have a picnic on the picnic benches.

We planned a picnic breakfast with our 7 year old nephew and this is truly the best place to go. The picnic tables are neat and situated under trees surrounded by greeneries. So lovely to hear the sounds of crickets and birds while we're eating. Afterwards we went down to the River Molawin. Very steep stairs but worth the effort when we saw and hear the strong gushing of water from the mountain. There's a mini falls that's picture perfect. Swimming is prohibited though but we just enjoyed the scenery of rainforest surrounding it. We took some time to explore, take pictures and took advantage of the fresh air as we took deep breaths in & out. Too bad we only had 1 hour for this garden before we head to our destination Paete. So we need to come back here to explore it more. Entrance fee is P20 only with neat restrooms too.

True to its namesake, this garden features a great collection of the Makiling flora. Though it certainly needs maintenance, the way the nature reclaims its own will simply bring you a sense of tranquility as if you are lulled by the legendary enchantress herself. For just an amount of Php 10/head, its a great place to bond for families, couples and even those who are going solo to reflect on their lives.

The place is like an abandoned garden. Very little semblance of life and activity. Signages arent updated. Trails are no longer visible. In fact, the whole time, it was just myself and my US based sister who researched about the existence of this place online.

We just love that there are still places like this in Laguna. Lots and lots of the province's forest are disappearing due to deforestation, infrastructure. It is a good feeling to be engulf by forest, lush greens.
Make sure that when you visit the arboretum of trees that you are prepared. Make sure you are wearing the right clothes for hiking plus hiking shoes specially during the rainy months for the trails can be slippery.
There are guides to help you so don't worry.

We went and the place exceeded our expectations. We did not expect the place to have a hiking trail. We hiked through about 15% of the trail and decided to head back as we were not prepared to hike. The trail is paved with concrete so not very hard to walk but a bit slippery due to the rain. A nice adventure for the kids and very educational as well. We will definitely be back to complete the trail hike.
