Stunning gardens, great variation and wonderful cakes and drinks provided by the church. Well worth a visit on the open days.

Manley Knoll and its gardens are just open once a year with The National Garden Scheme and is well worth noting its opening date when the NGS publish their openings. The house is not open to the public, but the early Arts and Crafts building is in a spectacular elevated position enjoying an ‘Arcadian’ landscape perspective from it front and views to the Cheshire Plain from the rear. Local sandstone provides the natural materials used for the terracing walls and paths to the formalised rear gardens that have a number of water features. A boating lake at the front of the house is surrounded by gently sloping walled fields and a perimeter of Scots pines. A concealed wooded quarry garden to the west is a secret haven of garden discovery where banks of rhododendron and azaleas bring spectacular cover in late May. Access for the lesser able is difficult as there are irregular surfaces, steps and gravelled areas.

Lovely gardens in a delightful setting. The work done in the quarry over the last 12 months is outstanding

We moved to the area a couple of years ago and jumped at the opportunity to visit the grounds and gardens of this fabulous Arts and Crafts house.
We had a lovely afternoon tea on the terrace then began our garden visit. The quarry garden was magical really enjoyed seeing the new planting. The woodland walk was great for our dog though not as interesting as the more formal gardens for me. We heard a cuckoo for the first time in the UK for me!
The parterre gardens and formal gardens close to the house were beautiful and the planting was really stunning. I purchased a perennial snap dragon to grow in a sandstone wall.
I love that the Timpson family allow their private gardens open to the public for charity. I wish we could visit more than once in a year. I would love to have seen the azaleas at their best.
We will definitely visit again and enjoyed the sculptures too. wonderful to have a dog friendly gardens too. The website does not do the gardens justice and seems rather outdated.
Thank you for a most enjoyable day.

Open very rarely, this historic Arts & Crafts house offers magnificent views across the Cheshire plain. The gardens around the house are divided into 'rooms' by hedging and offer tiny oasis' with wonderfully mature planting as well as new, restored areas.
The Jewel in the crown is the quarry garden, an old quarry that has been transformed, in times past, now restored to use. There are hundreds of steps up and down the sides and in to magical glades, all the steps are natural rock so some are a bit uneven. One area is a fern garden with tree ferns scaling the slopes, a convenient ledge accommodating a table and chairs. The majority of the planting comprises rhododendron and azaleas so it is good in early summer.
