Dun Eistean is the traditional stronghold of the Morrisom Clan. The little island is easily reached (after a not so easy 3/4 mile walk) by means of a small walking bridge. The foundations of the original tower are clearly visible as are a few other features. The views from the Island are breathtaking. Not hard to imagine oneself back 1000 years.

This is a Clan sight for the Morrison Family and will have no particular interest unless you love Spectacular views and a cold wind blowing in your face. There is unfortunately nothing left of the Fort but a pile of rocks, a dry wall cairn and some distant Morrison history. For my book still worth a visit, but the entry road is rough, and you have a 5-6 minute slow walk to Dun Eistean Island.

We drove to where the map took us for the bridge only to be greeted by a dog who was very vocal and wanted to play fetch with some stones. We realised we weren’t quite in the right place so walked a bit further up to where the correct path was. The dog followed us the whole way and sneakily managed to get through the gate with us. We tried to tease him out with bits from our picnic but he was having none of it. At the next gate we made sure to not let him through as there were lots of sheep around. But instead he just jumped the fence and came with us anyway. When we crossed the bridge and went up to the outcrop we sat and ate lunch. The dog stayed with us the whole time, sitting just a few feet away from us and not accepting any food or water. When we got up to leave, he resumed his tour guide duties and escorted us back to the car. He was a really lovely dog and if you see him and like dogs, do let him accompany you on the walk. He knows exactly why people come to visit and is very well behaved.

We almost oversaw the inconspicous signpost, were the small agriculture road left the lane. We managed to leave the car somewhere and walked on, passed some sheep runs. As there were no further signs, we werde convinced, there was nothing more to come, however, we enjoyed the already stunning view towards the sea, when all of a sudden, we saw a bridge out of nowhere. It lead to a small grassy island on a high rock at the seashore. And the most impressive was, to stand on this tiny island, with all the beautiful, fairylike arctic terns flying about!

We visited here as part of our circular walk from Europe, past the lighthouse, then along the coastal path to Dun Eistean. We returned back to our car following the lanes back to Europe.
The scenery along the coast was lovely, and it was nice watching the seals watching us and the variety of birdlife.
We got the interesting information from the internet about the site in general. There is also an information board at the site.
Astonishingly the site is free to visit.
The bridge, which seemed perfectly stable to ourselves, is an excellent idea since it gives access whatever the tide.
A lovely peaceful spot.

Just under a mile's walk each way from the signpost on the road and well worth it. Lovely scenic views topped off by the bridge across to the island and the fort remains. Beautiful and peaceful with great views from the bridge. Information boards explain about the history.

While visiting the nearby lighthouse we visited aus well the Dun. This was really interesting and after the available information it was somehow very hard but in the other way quiet interesting to imaging how people once lived out there.

This was a far more scenic and interesting place than the Butt of Lewis. Not only is there the mystery of why anyone would build here in the Middle Ages but you have wonderful scenery and bird life

Somewhat off the beaten track but worth the effort. The ruins, as others have noted, are indistinct but the location of this fortification is stunning. Reached by a narrowish bridge across a deep cleft - don't look down if you don't have a head for heights - onto a smallish plateau. From there scramble up an incline and imagine you are master (or mistress) of all you survey. Fantastic. The walk from here along the coast to the Butt of Lewis lighthouse is well worth the effort.

We visited the fort on a windy day and were slightly concerned that the access was across a bridge high above a stormy sea! However the bridge is a solid structure and was easy to cross even the dog managed without too much difficulty but advise that dogs are kept on a lead. The fort itself is extremely isolated and the scenery around very dramatic. There are excellent information boards which provide details about the fort. As Morrisons we were delighted to visit our ancestral home and really appreciated how hardy our forebearers were. Worth combining a visit with the Butt of Ness lighthouse just along the coast.
