Patrick was onze gids en we luisterden aandachtig naar zijn leerrijke versie over het product de kriek, niet zomaar een kriekbiertje, de beste, héél professionele uitleg, we hebben ervan genoten ook achteraf bij de degustatie kregen we alle kansen om te proeven van onze voorkeuren, ik vond de bieren allemaal lekker, kom zeker terug met een groep bier liefhebbers, groeten en proficiat

Heel interessante uitleg gekregen van beide gidsen over de historie en de actuele werking van brouwerij Liefmans. Kan dit bedrijfsbezoek alleen maar aanbevelen.

Voor onze huwelijksfoto's konden we terecht bij Liefmans. We waren er vast van overtuigd dat wij hier enorm mooie foto's konden maken en dat was uiteraard ook zo. We hebben genoten van een hele goeie service en daarnaast ook nog eens een zeer leuke rondleiding gekregen. 2 vliegen in 1 klap. Absoluut een aanrader!

De brouwerij zelf niet bezocht want deze was niet open, maar het bijhorend cafe is zeker het bezoeken waard!
Sinds juni 2021 wordt deze uitgebaad door jonge gasten, zij hebben er een leuke en hippe zaak van gemaakt.
Originele kaart vol met verrassende hapjes, en dan natuurlijk een Duveltje of Liefmans van het vat erbij!

Всего несколько часов, а столько впечатлений! Во-первых это очень красивое место на берегу реки (очень фотогенично для любителей инстаграмма😁). Во-вторых, вам могут провести очень интересную экскурсию с дегустацией невероятно вкусного пива!
Круто как для мужчин, так и для женщин! Вы по настоящему влюбитесь в это пиво!

Ondanks dat de brouwerij op het moment dat ik er was was gesloten voor publiek, ben ik er toch even langs gelopen. Liefmans en Oudenaarde zijn onlosmakelijk met elkaar verbonden. Tip:informeer naar bezoekmomenten, de brouwerij is niet constant te bezoeken. Er is geen bezoekerscentrum of iets dergelijks.

Liefmans is one of 4 remaining breweries in Oudenaarde. In the early days the city had 20 breweries but most of them were closed due to a tough competition and lack of underground water. Liefmans brewery was established in 1679 but the family business was sold to a brick factory owner in 1905. The most important and known person at the factory is Rosa Merckx, who was the first female brewmaster in Belgium. She joined the brewery in 1946 but still comes to Liefmans from time to time and checks if the beer is still as good as it should be. The tour was organized for our small group of 6 people, which is nice. It costs 12€ per person and lasts 2 hours. At the end you can taste different beers brewed at Liefmans. They still use an old method and add yeast in open containers, so that the beer has a contact with lactic acid bacteria, which help to create an amazing taste and flavor of Kriek beer. Liefmans was the first brewery to wrap every bottle in tissue paper. Probably, it was done in order to distinguish Liefmans beer. Nowadays, some other companies copied this feature and also wrap the bottles. In 1979 the brewery was acquired by English family Nicholson but did not belong to them for a long time. They wanted to produce British ale at the Liefmans facility but there was no success on the market. Since 2008 Liefmans belongs to Duvel and the production grows since then. Overall, the tour was very well organized and quite entertaining :)

When you have done a visit to the “Roman” brewery, than if you would like you can continue on the same road in the direction of the city of “Oudenaarde” this for about 7 km, then when arriving downhill you have to take a sharp right turn this time following the direction of the city of “Aalst”, and about 2 km on this road you will have on your left the main entrance and car park of the “Liefmans” brewery where a visit will transport you to a different world.
The old brewery has now been largely restored so you can discover the story behind this unique brewing process. It’s only in Oudenaarde that you’ll find the microflora that make Liefmans such a unique beer. For centuries, Oudenaarde has been famous for its fruit beers – years ago, there were 20 breweries in the town. Nowhere else on earth will you find such a perfect environment for making fantastic beer. We on this trip did not entered into the brewery, this because we already did it several times as we lived in Belgium.
Practical information:
For administrative reasons, you can only reserve and pay for a visit to the “Liefmans brewery” online.
You can book a brewery tour already starting from 15 persons, but in case there is already a group reserve, you can join this group also as an individual. They provide a guide from 35 persons. Visits are possible from Monday until Saturday, this at 10h00 – 14h00- 17h00.
Reception by a professional guide includes:
Explanation on the history of the “Oudenaards Brown”.
History on the beer and the history of the brewery.
Tour into the old brewery.
Two consumptions.
A tour takes about 2 hours and the price is 12€ pro adult person.
