It is a very roomy campground. The bathrooms are above basic. There are no showers though. We loved our time there. This is not Stony creek but is Sunset Campground. It is near General Grant Grove and the visitors center. There are many hikes nearby. Lake Sequoia is lovely and also close. There is beautiful scenery on the drive to the lake that is breathtaking. There is a gorgeous meadow we played at for two days with a lovely babbling brook. The flowers were blooming everywhere in early July.

We came back from a great camping trip to Sequoia! We stayed at Upper Stony Creek Campground, which in my opinion, was the best campground in the park! It is across the street from Stony Creek, but so much nicer. All the sites were HUGE and most were along Stony Creek! We went on many hikes, my favorites being Crescent Meadow and Indian Basin. Swimming in Hume Lake was also a highlight of the trip, and I also recommend attending ranger programs.

First off, make sure you call in advance of the certain amenities that are provided as it can make or break your entire stay here. When we arrived, we read in the complimentary summer newspaper of the information we should know about and showers and laundry facilities are not provided for the 2022 stay. Fortunately we had a portable shower device attached with a hose to use in replacement of a running shower. They also reverted back to old camping ways where they did not have any flushable toilets or sinks, just the usual pit toilets and water faucet to wash hands. You will have to bring your own gallons of water to brush teeth, clean your cooking utensils and cookware or use for drinking. Using the water faucet for other purposes than washing hands is prohibited by the National Park services. Now I am just talking about this campground site and Upper Stony Creek, not too sure about the nearby other camping ground such as Cove Group Campground or the ones near Grant Grove Village.
The restrooms are well stocked and at least checked periodically by the camp host because I remember one restroom had one toilet paper roll left and in a few hours when I went to use the same one, the rolls of toilet paper were stocked. Of course there is always going to be a smell using pit toilets and flies buzzing around, yet the camp hosts try their best to minimize the smell. by adding scented air fresheners. No lights in them, so if you have to use them at night, you'll have to bring a flashlight or lantern with you.
Campsites are well sized with a double ringed fire pit with a fold-over grate to grill your food as an option. If not, you can stack as many firewood as you want in the fire pit and create your own fire. They do allow collecting of firewood, so definitely bring reasonable resources that will efficiently help you cut the wood that you collect. You can also bring your own or purchase the wood at the local market they have just half a mile or so up the road from the campsite. They even have a gas station located at the market.
Overall, I would say that this campground is great for being in "middle" where you don't have too far of a drive to the local trail heads or landmark sites. If you don't mind not having running showers for the time being, then this is the place to camp. Also campsites were about $35 dollars a night.

Very nice campground more suitable for tents, pop ups, smallest RV’s and camper vans. Narrow road with multiple speed bumps and tree hazards. We camped in site 30, one of the longest sites offered at our preferred vacation time. Could not find a detailed map or description of our site. Took a chance, we made it in and out without damage to our RV. Have heard a lot of others weren’t so lucky. Great location, very quiet. The stars at night are super bright. Just can’t recommend for any RV of any size.

Nice area kf the forest. Typical natl park campground, sites are close together and heavily used. Campground has flush toilets and showrrs nearby. Nearby are giant redwoods, caves, small creeks and swimming holes. Easy to get to, no bad roads or cliffhanging one laners.

Hello, that is an excellent question but unfortunately I cannot answer it for you. I think it would probably come down to how strict the campground hosts are about your particular circumstances. I would recommend calling Sequoia & Kings Canyon National park directly. The phone number from their website is (559) 565-3341. Sorry I could not be of more help.
I did not observe any overflow parking. The entrance to the campground is small and you must immediately turn right to start down the narrow, one-lane road that wraps around the grounds. The host site is immediately on the right at the front. There may have been some limited additional parking spaces on the left of the entrance but you would have to drive around the entire loop til the end to park there. Again, I did not observe any additional parking spaces so I can't say with confidence there is any. The campground is also right on the main thorough fare that runs through the park so there is no parking there either unless you are temporarily pulling over. If may be able to park at the hotel/gas station/giftshop up the road a ways but that would be quite a walk back to the campground.
