Salleri was a place we stopped for the night before heading back to Thamel. Our original plan was to stop at Phaplu (2413m). The decision was right as Salleri is a nice little town with virtually no tourists.
We checked into Hotel Midway without any advance booking. We were asked to look at the rooms by our guide before deciding to stay. I didn't like the twin room that was given. The rest of the rooms are double bedded which was not a choice as me and my friend had to sleep on one bed. To my delight, I spotted a cottage in Midway. By local standards, it was very expensive at board rate of US$120 per cottage (2 rooms upper & lower floors not connected, that can sleep up to 6 people).
With no second thoughts, we made a move to the cottage. After 4 days of no shower after our Pikey Peak's trek, we were all looking forward to a good hot shower. My upper floor room which is more luxurious and cushier was a false façade. After standing in the cold bathroom for more than 20 minutes, the hot water didn't flow. I had to redress and asked for assistance. Communication with the young man turned out to be very challenging as he couldn't understand simple English. Unfortunately my "interpreter" was out on errands. My other kaki was blissfully showering in the lower level bathroom.
My feedback was that Midway has to do a better job to make the rooms ready for guests' admission, what more this cottage is supposed to be the "super VIP" room. The bathroom was the worst part - other people's toothbrushes were lying all over the place - not sure whether left by previous guests or their staff were using the bathroom. The toilet could not be flushed after one use but this was repaired later. The hot water bath in the upper level room, however, was not repairable.
The good part was we were able to ask for a discount to the room rate. Further, the bed came with an electric heater and the room was huge with nice layout and a good panoramic view of the mountains. The upper level room also come with a hot & cold water dispenser.
