We stayed in a three bedroom apartment at Grand Gateway Serviced Apartment in Shanghai over the summer. We are a family with two young boys (under 5). The apartment is not luxury in Shanghai standard but it is very new and very well equipped inside the apartment, the decor is modern and contemporary. Everything was running smoothly inside the apartment and we had only one broken lightbulb once and it was fixed by the in-house maintenance team straight away. Most of the other tenants are staying for short to medium term (6 months - 2 years) so it has very home feel rather than feeling of staying in a "hotel". The staffs were very low key, very kind yet helpful, they were definitely not all over you which could be the case in other luxury apartments/hotels.
The location is very convenient as the Grand Gateway shopping mall is just on the other side of the driveway. It has a big supermarket, although quite expensive but it does offer a lot of western brands that makes you feel comfortable. Other than that, there are many choices of stores and restaurants and services in there, which makes life so easy in those 38-40C degree hot days.
What we love most is the Club House within the Service Apartments, it includes a whole floor of indoor leisure options, from a gym, two kids' playrooms, library, to billiard room, function room. This is such a bliss for our boy as in the extremely hot days, he could at least having fun indoor. What's more, there is a roof top "beach" style outdoor swimming pool, which becomes my son's favourite place in whole Shanghai! The pool only opens from roughly June to October so it is certainly a bliss in the hot days!
As regard to the cost, it seemed relatively reasonable compared to some of the other serviced apartments in Shanghai. We think it is totally value for the money.
Overall we were very happy living there, and would love to stay there again when we go back to Shanghai again.

We have been back to Shanghai almost every year. Last summer we rent a 2 BR apartment at Grand Gateway in XuJiaHui. First the location is great, even the Taxi is hard to get but the doormen will do everything to help you. Second the apartment is very clean and the clubhouse is very accessable especially you have kids and they do have play rooms. The roof Top swimming Pool is a big plus. Third, the people at the Grand gateway are very helpful. I am highly recommond this place. The only down side that is the kitchen area does not have A/C even they said they have central air, but it is not central A/C you would think about in the States. but I really enjoy to stay there, I will do again next year.
