We also stayed at Teskey's the first time because we could not find other accommodations in the area. At first we were taken aback by the "shabby" appearance of the room - worn carpet, broken tile in the shower wall, painted over window mechanisms, etc. That's what we saw - what we experienced was a motel staff that was friendly, accommodating, and helpful. At the restaurant we were received like a friend and a regular. The food is not fancy, but simple and plentiful. On our last visit we experienced car trouble, and the staff at the restaurant and motel went out of their way to be helpful. We felt that we were in good hands. We will stay at Teskey's, at least part of the time, when we are in the area again. We are planning to retire to the area, and would be happy to call Teskey's our good neighbors. I hope that, if you don't get hung up on the "ambience" (or lack thereof), and really get to know the people who are taking care of you. …

I read the prior review, but we stayed at Teskey's just a month ago, and the room seemed very clean, new carpeting and paint, as well as both the motel and restaurant staff were very nice. We had a non-smoking room. Historic Mayer is a quaint small town. The restaurant has great Breakfast...served all day!

We booked a stay at Teskeys because there were no rooms available anywhere else near Arcosanti. (Arcosanti was great byt the way) Teskeys was scary. The rooms do not have a non-smoking option. The room smelled like an ashtray scented with nasty air freshener. We found it odd that the windows were open in the bathroom and bedroom areas. Turns out, they dont close. At all. In fact, the bathroom window was not even connected to its closing mechanism ( 50's style crank window) The wall had a hole in it. The shower area was rotted through, so there was a hole big enough for any creature to craawl right through. No problem though- they creatures could also fit in the 1 inch hole under the door, or the long gap underneath the wall air conditioning unit. We ended up checking out, and driving back to Phoenix at 11:30 at night. It was just too horrible to consider staying in this place. Definitely consider ANY other option besides this place. …
