Pleasant and functional

Nice hotel with nice staff. Room fairly basic and hotel lacked a bit of atmosphere. I went out to eat as not much going on. I asked to use pool but was told the massage area was closed but I could book? I’m not sure it actually had a pool so possibly a mistake anyway. Breakfast was good

La mia seconda casa

Ogni anno, da dieci anni, faccio una recensione a questo hotel, anche se più che una recensione, dopo anni di soggiorno estivo, è più un omaggio dovuto al caro Alessandro proprietario di questa splendida struttura storica al centro di Ostuni. Come dico sempre la migliore pubblicità per un’attività è quando il cliente ritorna per la seconda volta. Quindi per me che vengo da dieci anni, sono superflue ulteriori parole per decantare una struttura storica particolare ed incastonata all’interno di uno dei centri storici più belli d’Italia. Mi limiterò a ringraziare l’amico Alessandro ed il suo staff sempre accorto è disponibile a risolvere le richieste della clientela. Che dire di più? Vi invito a venire in questo hotel, sicuro che rimarrete affascinati al punto da ritornarci successivamente. Grazie Alessandro…

A beautiful hotel in a former convent

This beautiful hotel, housed in a former convent in the center of the old city, is within five minutes' walk of major town sites in beautiful Ostuni. The staff went out of their way to help us with various questions and plans we had. Be aware that their parking is offsite and tricky to find, so if you're coming by car call them when you're close by; they'll direct you to the lot and provide a shuttle to the hotel.

A beautiful and very sensitively restored hotel in the Centro Storico

We’d booked this hotel on the recommendation of our tour designer and guide Pietro Calabrese from Puglialy and we were very glad we did. This is a beautiful and very sensitively restored hotel in the Centro Storico of the stunning White City of Ostuni. It’s got packs of character in a wonderful & convenient location for exploring Puglia. Our transfer car from Brindisi airport was too big to navigate the narrow streets so the marvellous and helpful Lucrezia came to collect us from just outside the city walls in the hotel’s (much) smaller vehicle. This was an adventure in itself as we wound our way through the streets with liberal use of the horn and occasionally pausing to allow pedestrians to move. On arrival we were swiftly checked in and took the elevator up to our rooms on the second floor. The hotel has an unusual arrangement as the reception (partially built into the limestone that compromises much of Ostuni) is only connected to the rooms above via the elevator. There is another entrance just beside the reception entrance with stairs that one can use, though it can be a bit of a climb. Our deluxe double room was huge with high vaulted ceilings and pretty tiled floors. The small but functional bathroom was in half of an addition to the room. The other half contained the bathroom to the neighbouring room. This other bathroom was just behind my head when I was in bed which was an unusual experience occasionally. There was a small but efficient fridge which contained complimentary water. This was very refreshing and welcome after a day wandering the countryside of Puglia. We didn’t use the tea making facilities as there was tea but nothing else, no coffee or milk substitute. The room was very quiet for the most part and the big beautiful shutters on the windows blocked out most of the early morning light. There was a small terrace just outside one of the windows to our room which was used on one occasion by a group quite late at night. To be fair they had no idea the frosted window led our bedroom and were quite happy to call it a night when I asked them to. There was a tough safe embedded in the wall which looked as if it could take a significant beating from a sledge hammer. You have to request the key from reception. The bed was very comfortable, - partially memory foam. We slept very well during our stay. There’s 2 small terraces, sadly adjacent to guest rooms, but also a roof terrace with stunning views over the city. There’s some sun loungers there but it was too hot to even contemplate any lying around, even if we’d had the time. Part of our tour group had thought of staying at La Terra but were concerned that the air-conditioning would not be sufficient in a historic building so they stayed at a more modern hotel just outside the Historical Centre. They need not have been concerned because not only was the room cool due to the very thick walls but the air-con worked perfectly. It was very much needed as the temperature during our stay rose to 36C. This was apparently exceptional for June. We had great breakfasts every morning in the restaurant on the ground floor. There was a good selection of cereal, fruit, yogurt, bread, meats, cheeses, and cake! Coffee was made on request, as you’d expect in Italy. Breakfast doesn’t start until 8am which we found a little bit inconvenient. Tours typically start early and we found it all a bit of a rush to finish getting ready and get to the meeting point in time for our daily activities. There are lots of really excellent restaurants in easy walking distance. I can recommend La Vecchia Terrazza which has the best food we ate during our stay and the most magnificent views of Ostuni. We ate at Osteria Pizzeria Sant'Oronzo on 3 of our 6 nights because the food and service was excellent. It’s also quite pretty with its outside tables along a quiet side street. We enjoyed aperitifs and occasionally digestifs at Parisi Café on Via Cattedrale. It’s an excellent place for people watching! One final piece of advice. Under no circumstances use any of the Euronet ATMs. They are everywhere but they charge huge fees and ignore your choice of declining Dynamic Currency Conversion. It’s fairly well documented on the internet as I found to my cost after the event. There is an excellent ATM at the post office (Ufficio Postale) on Corso Giuseppe Mazzini which charges no fees. It’s 5 minutes walk from the hotel (if that). We had a really marvellous stay at La Terra and we’d definitely stay here again should we ever pass through Ostuni. …

Superb!

Amazing hotel! Francesco was extremely helpful and hospitable. There was another lady at reception and she was lovely too! Location is superb. Breakfast was delicious. Elegant and everything was homemade from a lady called Carmela. We left our iPad in Venice and got it sent to La Terra and Francesco was incredibly helpful to send it back to Australia. Would recommend this place to everyone. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. Thankyou!
